About Us

The Department of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies (DCFS), as part of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, supports people and communities to improve their economic and social well-being through democratic, mutual self-help.

We are dedicated to advancing social equity and shared purpose, rooted in the values of decency, civility, and cooperation, while safeguarding members’ savings and investments. Through our oversight of more than 2000 entities—including Registered Charitable Organization, Industrial and Provident Societies, Co-operative Societies, and Friendly Societies, DCFS plays a crucial role in empowering Jamaicans to reduce poverty and enhance quality of life. Our efforts has layed a strong foundation for meaningful change and sustainable growth across diverse economic sectors.

Through audits, inspections, training, and technical guidance, the Department works with societies—not over them—to promote good governance, accountability, and sustainable development. While our mandate is grounded in the Acts and Regulations, our work remains people-centred, focused on empowering communities and individuals across Jamaica.
